All Wainscoting Wallpaper

Wainscoting wallpaper is a wall mural designed to cover only the lower half of your wall, instead of the full height. Traditional wainscoting refers to decorative wood paneling on the lower portion of a wall, often paired with a chair-rail molding. Our wainscoting wallpaper gives you the same lower-half accent look without the carpentry, and with a lot more whimsy.

Traditional wainscoting sits at about one-third the wall height (around 32 to 36 inches from the floor for an 8-foot ceiling). For kids' rooms, we recommend going slightly higher, around 42 to 48 inches, so the design is more visible. The right height is the one that frames the design where your eye lands when you walk into the room. There is no single rule.

Not at all. A chair-rail molding is a classic detail that gives the wainscoting a finished, framed look, but it is completely optional. Many of our customers install the wainscoting wallpaper on its own and let the top edge serve as the transition between the paper and the paint above. Both looks are beautiful. The choice is purely about the style you want.

A soft solid paint color is the most popular pairing because it lets the wainscoting design shine without competing. Pick a paint color that pulls from the design itself for a coordinated look, or go with a neutral cream, soft white, or pale gray for a quieter feeling. You can also hang art, shelving, or family photos above the wainscoting to add personality. The upper half is your blank canvas.
