Toile rooms reward restraint. The mural is doing all the storytelling, so the rest of the room should feel like a calm period-influenced retreat. Pair a Bordeaux red toile mural with crisp white walls, white-painted wood furniture, and bedding in warm cream with a single deep red accent. Pair a French blue toile with cream walls, light oak furniture, and bedding in soft cream and dusty blue. Avoid black, navy, and harsh metallics. They fight the warm cream ground and make the room feel cold. Soft brass or aged gold work beautifully as small accents, especially in lamp bases and drawer pulls.
